What is the specs of your pc?
Hello everyone,
I was wondering out of curiosity what the specs of everyone computers are.

I needed a bit more oomph for compilation and stuff, I kinda went overboard, but that's basically my first desktop PC upgrade in 11 years

CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X
RAM: 2x32GB 5600MHz
Storage: 2x2TB SSD
OS: Fedora + Win 11
GPU: none, hopefully something from RX 7000 series in the future

For everyday use this machine is way overpowered (except in games), but when it comes to compilation times it's stupid fast

My daily is an Alienware Area51M R2, which I've essentially maxed out.
Use it for photo/video editing, virtualisation, and watching YouTube

As much as the system performs well - The HDMI port died and ONLY usb-c port died a few weeks before warranty ended and Dell support were fucking useless so it lapsed!!!

I've never heard of hdmi ports dieing without physical damaged, and that wouldnt be coverered under warrenty.
and is the usb c port totaly dead?

I've looked in the port and can't see any physical damage, so who knows. The DisplayPort output is fine so I use an adapter to HDMI when I want to hook it into my telly.
The USB-C port is dead dead.

The killer nic is basicly a intel nic but rebranded.
If your optane is a m.2 i would swapnit with another ssd.
There is no point accerating a ssd.

You very likey could run linux it just would take a little bit. to setup optimus.

I mainly use this for gaming, but I'm planning on upgrading this for streaming purposes, and just to have more storage cause I can't get enough of it. This originally had an i5-9600K and an RTX 2060 Super, but I've since upgraded and gave the GPU to my best friend when his 980 Ti died on him.

TrueNAS file server:

AMD A10-7700K APU, GT 1030, 16GB DDR3 RAM, a crapton of old hard drives lying around. This used to be my main gamedev PC from 2015 to 2020.

Laptops:

One crappy Lenovo touch screen laptop I use for testing games on low-end hardware occasionally (not sure the exact specs but they're crappy). I also have an ASUS ROG 15 inch gaming laptop that I bought for college, but then the pandemic happened and we never had in-person classes.

That gaming laptop has 16 GB RAM, an RTX 2060 Max-Q, and an AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS, and a 1TB NVMe SSD.

Misc.:

- 256gb model Steam Deck
- Some AWOW mini-PC I bought off Amazon that I used as a test server, 6GB of RAM, some crappy Celeron processor, 128 GB SSD.
- Samsung M7 smart monitor. It runs an OS, you can hook a keyboard/mouse on it, and can run unsigned code on it via an OpenGL SDK. It counts as a computer in my eyes.

Hows using the m1 mac for development do you have a apple paid developer id to bypass the issues with singing or did you do some other hacky thing to let it run unsigned code.

also I have far to many computers as well. I think at last count i had like 15.

I develop with Unity so don't need to worry about that. At least I haven't had any issues even with standalone builds of games uploaded to Steam. Types of games I work on also aren't graphically demanding so it runs them well top.

i've got a M.2 pci express adapter, plus i had to modify my bios to get it working as a boot drive

anyway, ik the gpu is pretty strong for a weak cpu like a quad but at least i can play Just Cause 2 and Sleeping Dogs at max.

Well if it makes a diffrence using it as a dram cache thats fine.

Also upgraded to a 1000w PSU from a 650w to accomodate the new GPU.

I did this upgrade to give me more flexibility, I can have a Windows VM with the 3060ti for gaming and heavy-duty gamedev work, and I can use Linux for everything else. I no longer have to deal with Single-GPU passthrough either, so I can use both OSes at once using looking-glass for Windows.

The RAM is bottlenecking the GPU more than the CPU

My '08 iMac is my actual honest to god main and only computer, it is NOT some toy! The only time it gets turned off is when there's a power outage and it lives to check my emails, manage my finances, manage files and do a lot of legally acquiring and converting DVD backups to x264 from my collection of physical media to get FTP'd to my PS3

I will not install linux on it, linux has shit bcm43xx wireless and amd gpu support making the iMac basically useless, everything that needs the GPU "like webpages and navigating the ui" is either choppy or teary depending on if you enable tearfree and the wifi drops out every 5 minutes with both wl and bcm drivers irregardless of if its compiled or prepackaged

It was cheap and has a nice 1200p screen so I will use it, it is a nice computer and does everything I need it to do in a speedy manner. Its really reliable, I can leave it running doing handbrake encodes for a week straight and it takes it fine
